Alan J. Gerson, Council Member of the 1st District, is proud to honor
The United States General Services Administration on the 2009 inaugural “Together Building Change” small business conference held in New York City; and

WHEREAS:


 
 
Small Businesses have provided the backbone that built New York City and small businesses continue to provide the services that maintain the city’s infrastructure and that keep New York City running while employing many city workers; and 
WHEREAS:



 

The United States General Services Administration should be praised for maintaining a small business office and creating a conference for small businesses that will serve New York City and its many businesses informing such businesses about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, capital projects, small projects, subcontracting information, bid information, and invaluable networking opportunities; and
WHEREAS:


The GSA is on the cutting edge in a great number of fields, including architecture, information technology, e-commerce, and alternative fuel vehicles; and

WHEREAS:



The Green Initiative will be one of the conference programs, promoting GSA’s energy saving efforts, and the Green products and services contracted for/by the government; and
WHEREAS:


The GSA influences the spending of nearly $500 billion in federal budgets each year.  If the GSA were a private company, it would rank in the Fortune 100; and
WHEREAS:





The Together Building Change conference will provide information to small business owners and representatives in the areas of Construction, Architecture, Engineering, Maintenance, Real Estate, Facilities Support services, and HVAC services, providing much needed information and advice to those businesses seeking training or government contracting networking opportunities; and
WHEREAS:





Many agencies use GSA-approved contractors generating millions of dollars worth of sales annually under their GSA contracts, Region 2, located in Federal Plaza, Manhattan, in fiscal year 2008 awarded 536 small business contracts totaling over thirty-eight millions dollars, the majority of which went to New York and Tri-state businesses, adding to job creation for New Yorkers; now, therefore
